Events

Baby Shower is an annual community and educational event. Any Nicholas county woman who is currently pregnant or has had a baby in the last 12 months is invited to attend. Dad’s are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend a class created just for them. Participants have the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from various early childhood agencies, receive information on Infant CPR, Safe Sleep practices, child seat safety, importance of early childhood literacy, and development expectations. Participants will receive new baby gifts and have chances at raffles for “gently used” items. The Community Baby Shower are held at the Starting Points Daycare office.  An announcement for 2016 Baby Shower is expected soon.
Chili Cook-off   is a new event in 2016 to raise funds for Starting Points. The event will be held during the week of the Cherry River Festival.
Empty Bowls is our primary fund raising event of the year. Each November on the Friday before Thanksgiving the community is invited to support Starting Points by attending this dinner and silent auction event. The name Empty Bowls and the simple supper of soup and bread provided by local restaurants intentionally draws our attention to those who go without food. Beautifully hand-crafted bowls are sold as admission to the event. The silent auction includes a variety of local artisan items, gift baskets, and gift certificates. Join us for this event on November 18, 2016 at the Richwood Pantry and/or The Richwood High School.
Easter Egg Sales is another fundraiser that we hold annually.  During Lent, we take orders for homemade Easter Eggs.  These Easter Eggs are prepared at the Richwood Pantry and we deliver to all the donors.
